4-6-2022: travel day
Day 11 is a travel day: we're going from York to Edinburgh. At the station, we had to wait for a bit. We found a first class lounge where we were allowed to wait, so that's what we did. We were greeted with snacks and drinks again, lovely! It was basically the last luxury of the day. Unlike our other travel experiences, we only saw an attendant once during our 2,5 hour trip. I've gone through the whole train to find an attendant and the one I found in the end helped me get some more drinks and the last two vegetarian sandwiches for the girls. The girls and I decided we're going to try to block out the family that shared first class with us. Those kids..... ugh, no, I won't go into any details, but I'll leave it at "what on earth are those parents thinking???".
In Edinburgh there was construction going on around the station, so it was a bit of a challenge to find the correct bus stop. After the less than nice train ride, my nerves were somewhat frazzled and this didn't help, so I might have had a little mini breakdown, but the girls and I eventually found the correct bus stop and made it to our hotel without mishap. The stop was, as advertised, really in front of our hotel, so I was exceptionally happy about that. The entry system into the hotel and the room was a bit of a hassle, but in the end we got into our room, so we could finally unwind a bit. And do some laundry, because we couldn't pack outfits for 3 weeks in our suitcases (and be able to buy books!).
The next challenge was finding a place to eat. I had done my research and I'd seen that there were a lot of places close by. What I hadn't counted on, was that the rules in Scotland are somewhat different. A lot of places were full, or wouldn't allow minors in after 8 (and it was getting close to 8), so those places weren't an option with the girls (they were 16 at the time). In the end I ordered pizzas at Pizza Hut and brought it back to the hotel. The girls were craving pizza anyway, so I suppose we'll call it a win?
