York (day 3)

After breakfast, we head towards the York Minster. We're feeling adventurous, so we don't just buy an entrance ticket, we also get tickets for the tower challenge. 275 steps, yikes! What where we thinking.... It was a glorious (but windy) day, so we were swayed by the promise of great views all around. In that we were most certainly not disappointed! The views were amazing, we could see so much. The steps are not for the weak though. We had to say that we did not have any health issues like asthma or rheumatism (little white lie, sorry!). After about 1/3 of the steps, you have to cross the roof (there's a little walkway there, we didn't actually walk over the roof hahaha). It was a nice little rest for the rest of the climb up the really narrow steps. One way only, you better not be too wide.... All the way up, we were treated to sights like these:

York Minster, unlike Salisbury Cathedral, has an undercroft. There you can find the tomb of St. William (and his reconstructed shrine). You can also find the Doomstone there (also called the mouth of hell) and some remnents of the Roman occupation and the Vikings. There has been activity in and around York for over 2000 years (and actually even longer, but that hasn't been documented all that well). We explored the Minster for nearly2 hours and we managed to evade most of the groups, yay!

After all the exploring, walking and biking of the last few days, we were in danger of cognitive overload. So we decided to call it a day, to do a bit of shopping and to take some time to write our blogs. Oh and we've visited the library, but more on that later (or maybe just in my portfolio for school). Tomorrow will mostly be a travel day to get back to London, but we do plan to make a few stops to take in the sights. Friday we'll take the train in the early morning, so sadly our trip is almost over.
