14 & 15-6-2022: travelling home

Our trip was coming to an end. We would have a final day in Inverness, but unfortunately Isis had a migraine. The lady from the hotel was so kind to let us stay a few hours longer so that Isis her medication could kick in. She took her medication just in time, so the worst was prevented, but she still didn't really feel well. After check-out, we went to the King's Highway again. We decided to camp out there until it would be time to board the train. We snacked, chatted, read and basically just chilled the day away. By the time we had to board the sleeper train, Isis felt somewhat human again.

The sleeper train left at 20.45. We were promised comfortable chairs. Well, they were the most uncomfortable chairs of the whole trip! The only comfortable thing of the chair was the headrest, ugh. Therefor we hardly slept during the trip to London. So, if you ever have to take a sleeper train, don't believe their claims of comfortable chairs! Spend the extra money and get bunk beds.

We arrived in London right on schedule. We arrived at Euston and would be leaving from St. Pancras. We'd been told that the first class lounge in St. Pancras was closed and we would have at least an hour 'to kill'. So we'd kindly asked if you could please make use of the Euston lounge. At first they wouldn't let us because we weren't leaving from Euston, but another lady took pity on us and let us in for an hour. We were given nice cups of tea and pastries, so this really lifted our spirits!

After our allotted hour, we went to St. Pancras. We were told that there would be some serious delays, because there were two trains to Paris that hadn't left yet. In the end, they managed to get everyone aboard pretty quickly, so the delay was only 30 minutes. For the return trip, I did manage to book us the premier standard seats. That means that you get a light meal, a snack and drinks. It was lovely! Because of this, the return trip flew by.

We arrived home at 7 PM the 15th. Travel weary, but with lots and lots of amazing memories. We ordered in some Chinese and went to sleep. Dreaming of our next epic road trip ;-)
