7-6-2025: travel day to Glasgow
Today would be another travel day. It was supposed to be a reasonably short trip (3 hours door to door), but that's not what happened. We were sitting in the first class lounge, when the attendant came to tell us that our train was cancelled due to a trespasser on the tracks. He couldn't tell us if the next train after that would depart, but we chanced it and changed our tickets to the next train. We could wait in the lounge, so that was nice. When it was close to the departure time of the next train, we went to the platform just in case (it still said cancelled at the time). We were really glad we'd done that, because shortly after that, they announced that the next train would depart after all. The number of people rushing onto the platform was mind boggling! Again, we were very happy we were travelling first class, because the train was uncomfortably full (even first class was nearly full).
For the last bit of our journey, we needed to transfer. According to the schedule, we had to transfer at the second stop, but they apparently skipped the first stop. Luckily we'd been paying attention and we got off the train just in time. The last bit of the journey was blissfully uneventful.
Door to door our trip lasted 5 hours. After getting ourselves some nice pastries at Gregg's, we went to our hotel. The girls needed a nap after all the waiting and rushing, so they took a nap and I made sure the blog was up to date. The hotel was really nice: roomy and it had space for 4. I also took advantage of the 'complimentary tea' while the girls were sleeping and checked for a nice place to eat nearby. There were quite a few options.
Oh a random observation: they say it rains a lot in Scotland and there had been rain predicted, but so far we haven't had any rain! We hope it'll stay that was (and if not: we have a lovely Scottish umbrella).
Our hotel & the street it is in.
