30-5-2022: Salisbury Cathedral and Bath

We started our day with a nice breakfast in the hotel's pub. It really was our favorite pub so far and the prices were way lower than in London! A classic win-win. After breakfast we visited the Salisbury Cathedral. The employees and volunteers are mostly somewhat older people, but they are so kind and full of stories! They visibly enjoy their 'job' and they are very proud of what they do (as they should be by the way). One older man told us proudly he would be going to The Netherlands twice that year. Once to Amsterdam and in September to Oosterbeek (to commemorate the Battle of Arnhem). That meant he was even older than we thought, if he was a veteran that fought there. Respect, both for what he did and for how he approaches life. We are grateful for both as well. His zest for life, even after having experienced adversity, is something to aspire to. The Magna Carta was also impressive. We really would have liked to have heard the Evensong on Sunday, but we were still at Stonehenge when that took place. Choices, choices....

After our visit to the cathedral, it was time to catch the next train to Bath. This time we found the first class cabin haha. We were really spoiled rotten by the extremely kind attendants. They even helped with our suitcases! We almost felt like we were celebrities or royals ;-). The hotel in Bath was a bit further away than advertised, but it didn't rain, so that was a win. When we arrived, we were again told our room wasn't really yet (ugh!), but we could leave our suitcases behind so we could go to the Roman Baths.

The Roman Baths were also impressive. Amazing what the Romans could build and how they even got things like central heating working. We had a sip of the water because "it cures almost anything". I can tell you that the water is utterly disgusting, but who knows what health risks I've prevented now? We drank from some kind of faucet, not from that greenish bath by the way.

You could also visit other spaces of the building. The sound and heat at the overflow was overwhelming. We really liked seeing all the archaeological things.

Since the hotel somehow wasn't serving dinner that day, we ended up ordering food through Uber Eats (the lady at the reception gave us this tip). It worked surprisingly well.
