27-5-2022: British Museum & Wicked
Our first full day in London itself. We had chosen to go to the British Museum first. Unlike my previous visit (pre-COVID), this time we had to book a time slot, so that's what I'd done. We started our day with a great breakfast at O'Neill's. The previous evening, while we had dinner there, we saw that they also offered breakfast, including some vegetarian options (great for the girls!). The vegetarian sausage (part of the full Irish vegetarian breakfast) was seriously good, so the girls were over the moon.
After breakfast, we walked to the British Museum. We chose to walk, because along the way, we would walk past two big 2nd hand bookstores (another thing on our wish list). The first bookstore was amazing (Judd Books). They had a huge collection of used books, but also a pretty big collection of new books (out of date prints of books or books with little defects). We ended up buying 8 books (and a tote bag) for only € 40,-. A pretty good deal (we Dutchies love good deals...).
After our visit to the bookstore, we went to the museum (the second bookstore wasn't as much of a hit). We arrived a little early, but that luckily wasn't a problem. We really liked the museum. Sadly, some parts of the museum were closed, but we got to see most of the things we wanted to see, like the Egyptian collection (including the Rosetta stone), the English history and the Greek collection.
After the museum, we walked through China town to go to the theater district, because we had tickets to the musical Wicked. I'd already seen it before (in London), but the girls hadn't and they really wanted to see this show instead of any of the other options. We had a blast (it truly is a great show). Afterwards we heard that a lot of the tube trains weren't running because of strikes in the London underground, but luckily 'our line' was still running. It was crazy busy, but standing in a really full tube train is still better than having to walk back if you're really tired.
