1-6-2022: Stratford-Upon-Avon

We decided to start our day with a breakfast at O'Neill's. Since our visit in London, the girls had kept talking about those sausages, so when we found out there was an O'Neill's nearby the hotel, the decision was already made. Today, we would have a transfer again. The first leg of our journey was only half an hour, but the attendant gave us a luxury experience that felt way longer. I still don't know how he put everything in so short a time. Our suitcases were stored for us, we got tea, cookies and crisps, he gave of lots of excellent tips of what to do (and not to do) in Stratford and he returned our suitcases to us shortly before we arrived at the station. A person could get used to this!

The second leg of our journey was in a very small train, so there wasn't a first class. But it was such a short ride that we absolutely didn't mind (we were still floating from the first leg of our journey haha). The lady of the B&B had told us we could call when we arrived at the station. She would make certain she'd be there to open the door for us and have our room ready. Such service and such a lovely room we got! It was really roomy, very clean and it had great beds. We were sad we'd only be staying one night.

Stratford-Upon-Avon is mostly known as the birthplace of William Shakespeare. That's why we walked past his house:

It was exactly as I'd pictured based on the book I was reading, so the author had clearly done her research! The small town is lovely, with houses that seem to not have changed for hundreds of years. Truly amazing. Everywhere we saw evidence of the preparations for the local festivities because of the Jubilee. It was almost like Kingsday, but then for several days if you looked at the programmes.

When we were planning things to do, I looked into going to a Shakespeare play by The Royal Shakespeare Company. When I saw the prices, I nearly got a heart attack. It was either spending a whole lot of money, or spending slightly less and having really bad seats. We decided we'd rather do other things than spending that kind of money. One other thing I came across was a cat cafe called Shakespaw Cat Cafe. We booked an Afternoon Tea there. It was my first time visiting a cat cafe. It was fun to see how the cats come to visit some people and completely ignore others. As usual, I belonged to the latter group. I don't know why, but cats don't usually like me all that much (I'm a nice person kitties! I promise I don't bite). The afternoon tea itself was nice and they even bagged the leftovers for us. This was Hamlet (the cat) by the way:
